ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - To the surprise to many local soccer fans, Major League Soccer didn't announce St. Louis would be getting an expansion team at its All-Star Game last month.
However, Bill "Mr. Soccer" McDermott tells KMOX the city's fate was locked in there.
"The presentation that really tipped it Tom was the presentation to the overall league at the MLS All-Star Game, that was the one that actually sealed the deal," McDermott told KMOX's Tom Ackerman on TIAM, Thursday.
After a League meeting in April, we learned MLS decided to grow its expansion plans from 28 teams to 30, essentially guaranteeing St. Louis would be awarded a francise soon. McDermott believes St. Louis will begin play in the MLS in 2022 as the League's 28th team.
We are waiting to learn more about the corporate sponsors for the downtown stadium and jersey for St. Louis' coming MLS team.
