ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Carolyn Kindle Betz says her and the rest of the MLS4TheLou's ownership group have forced the Major League Soccer owner's hands over the last six months. She joined KMOX's TIAM, Monday to give some insight into what led to last week's surprise decision from America's top soccer league to expand its expansion plans.
"I do believe that we sort of shocked (MLS owners) a little bit," Kindle Betz says. "Because really I don't think they saw St. Louis coming. And certainly with this ownership group and certainly with this being overwhelming privately financed."
Betz says it wasn't just the St. Louis group, but also their top competitors in Sacramento making a strong case, that led MLS owners last week to vote to add three expansion teams instead of the previously planned one.
She says the ownership group will now be fine-tuning the recently-released stadium plans and working toward formalizing sponsorship agreements.
