ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - A St. Louis-based relief agency gets ready to hand out hundreds of boxes of food this weekend. There's worry this is only the start of a very long summer of need.
"They said, you know we're really astonished to see how much and how bad the needs are right now, they had no idea." Pat Bradley, co-founder of Crisis Aid International, describes a recent conversation with members of a community group seeking help for desperate families.
Bradley says Crisis Aid has been feeding 1,200 families a week. "Our concern is with the needs growing throughout the summer, how are we going to keep this up, especially if the food banks have limited resources and are not back up to 100 percent, to where they used to be before this."
He says donations have been generous, including from corporate sponsors. This weekend's food distribution is supported by Big League Impact and Cardinals Care. But Bradley is concerned that donations are starting to drop off.
Crisis Aid and affiliate Wings of Love and Care Youth Center will be distributing 2000 boxes of food at the O'Fallon Park Recreation Complex at 4343 West Florissant Avenue in St. Louis this Saturday, May 9th from noon to 3pm. Families can drive up and volunteers will place a box of groceries, including fresh produce and dry goods, in your trunk. There is a need for volunteers to help pack those boxes. Crisis Aid is asking volunteers to register so you can receive instructions for coronavirus safety measures. The number to call is (314) 487-1400
