ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Fields Foods is growing, opening a new location in the Central West End later today.
Owner Chris Goodson says the local grocery chain's newest location at Euclid Avenue and Delmar Boulevard is a way to help bridge the "Delmar divide."
He says he's looking for other locations to help end other food deserts in the area.
"I like to see food desert areas that we can turn into former food deserts," Goodson says. "But I've got to see some momentum starting to come there, some life and some things that are happening. You don't want to just put up stakes in a true food desert because you'll dry up and die."
The West End location, like the one on Washington Avenue, has more than 100 apartments on the floors above it. Residents can take an elevator down and go through an exclusive door to shop. It opens at 6 p.m. Thusday.
The locally-owned grocery chain is already in Lafayette Square and on Washington Avenue, with another store under construction that will be inside a new apartment development in Dogtown.
