ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - In the same evening that the Colorado Rockies tried to stop the trade talks surrounding five-time All-Star Nolan Arenado, the 28-year-old third baseman just sparked it back up by saying he felt "disrespected" by the team.
Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich made it clear in a statement on Monday night, according to the Denver Post, trade talks are off the table.
"We are going to move forward pretty much as we expected — with Nolan in the purple and black and as our third baseman," Bridich said, reports the Post. "So we can put this to bed and collectively look forward to the upcoming season and work toward that."
He continued, "You ask what I thought of Jeff’s quotes and I say I don’t care what people say around there. There is a lot of disrespect.
"No. I won't get into the details.
"I'm not mad at the trade rumors. There's more to it."
The Rockies have reportedly been in talks with the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers as possible trade partners for Arenado.
On Monday at the Cardinals Winter Warm-Up, owner Bill DeWitt Jr. told media the Cardinals were "not actively" seeking a trade and didn't expect a "significant" addition to the team's payroll this season. When asked specifically about a $35 million salary, like what Arenado would be owed in 2020, DeWitt said, "It's pushing the envelope to be honest. If there is a great opportunity to move (the payroll) up a little bit, we'll take a look at that. We really can't be in that kind of range."
