ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - "Broken doors and a stolen cash register won't stop what we do in the community."
That's what Habitat for Humanity St. Louis CEO Kimberly McKinney said following Friday night's break-in at the charity's ReStore on South Grand.
The store was open for business on Saturday.
McKinney told KMOX News that police have video of what the burglar did, "Busted through two sets of glass doors and obtained the cash register. Fortunately there was very little cash in the register. He attempted to take the safe, but was unable to do so. The damage far outweighs the cash he was able to obtain."
McKinney said the ReStore takes donated building materials and sells them to the public, to raise funds for charity home-building works, "Eighty-five cents of every dollar donated to us goes directly to the program. It hurts. We like to be good stewards of the money donated to us. In instances like this, I just shake my head and think this isn't a good use of funds (to repair the building damage)."
St. Louis police aren't commenting on the investigation.
