Wainwright: St. Louis is the most charitable place I've ever been

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Charitable giving is so common in St. Louis, that St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright and his charity Big League Impact had a tough time coming up with a name that didn't step on the toes of another charity, by one of his former Cardinals teammates.

Wainwright says it was just a coincidence that former St. Louis pitcher Kyle McClellan's charity, Brace for Impact, happens to sound so similar.

Last year's Roberto Clemente Award nominee says he believes St. Louis was named the most charitable city in the U.S. by a recent study. But he says he's known that for a long time.

"It doesn't surprise me at all because all our initiatives that we do here in St. Louis compared to initiatives we try anywhere else in this country, not even close to the same and they're bigger markets," Wainwright says. "But the people here just have a great heart about them."
