WASHINGTON D.C. (KMOX) - In case you didn't know, St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Mike Maddux's is a pretty damn good golfer. He hit not one, but two holes-in-one during his round on Monday afternoon before Game 3 of the NLCS against Washington, according to manager Mike Shildt.
Shildt dropped the news during his pregame press conference saying president of baseball operations John Mozeliak witnessed both aces. Mozeliak tells KMOX's Chris Hrabe that they happened from about 180-yards and 145-yards out, and Maddux shot 71 on the day.
Shildt says Maddux's number of career holes-in-one is now six. He mentioned after being asked about what point in the season "things clicked" for young ace Jack Flaherty, who will start Game 3 Monday night at 6:38. You can hear the full answer in the audio at the top of this page.
The National Hole In One Registry says the odds of making two aces in the same round are roughly 67 million to 1. And it sounds even crazier when you compare it to the Vegas odds of St. Louis winning the 2019 World Series, which is 5/1.
