ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - For the last week, you probably have had no idea that one of the most beloved St. Louis Cardinals of all time jumped into the social media world. Willie McGee – former NL MVP, both National Baseball and Cardinals Hall of Famer and current Cardinals coach – has been very active lately on his new Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The 61-year-old may be a bit late to the game, but since debuting his accounts in June he's already gained over 10,000 combined followers.

He had a bit of a coming-out party on Twitter Friday, when he posted a photo of himself from "Back in the day when I was young." It was a pleasant surprise for many.

Maybe Willie McGee can save twitter. https://t.co/tBhc2PFP4y

Right about the time you become convinced Twitter needs to be shot into the sun, something like Willie McGee posting childhood photos happens. Awesome. https://t.co/mme1mdNSM0

And he only gets better on Instagram. His social media game is firing on all cylinders and he's checking all the boxes on viral content.

Cute kids

Check out the swing on his granddaughter as he put her through some tee work:

Solid workout regiment

If a former superstar athlete taking boxing lessons outdoors in the heat of the day doesn't scream "Motivation Monday" then I don't know what does.

“Motivation Monday” Whether you are young or old, being active is a must. It helps to keep you going. My son and I box weekly with @fightkore for conditioning. What motivates you?

Solid use of hashtags

Some might say less is more when using hashtags on Instagram. But McGee nailed it with just his second ever post on Instagram he made sure this pic of him and Ozzie Smith would be seen by Cardinals fans with "#cardinalsnation" and "#stlcardinals." And seeing "#bestfriends" in there has to make you smile.

The best with one of the best @ozziestlwizard #ozziesmith#thewizard#bestfriend#stlcardinals #cardinalsnation#williemcgee
