ATLANTA (KMOX) - We spoke to St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt, catcher Yadier Molina and outfielder Marcell Ozuna ahead of Thursday's start of the NLDS against the Braves at SunTrust Park in Atlanta.
Miles Mikolas will get the ball for St. Louis in Game 1 – set to start at 4:02 p.m. – and when our Tom Ackerman asked Shildt about that decision he told us that Jack Flaherty would be getting the ball for Game 2 on Friday and Adam Wainwright is "likely" to be Sunday's starter for Game 3 in St. Louis, which will begin at 3:10 p.m.
Mikolas was asked about what it will be like to get the ball in Game 1 with this being his first MLB postseason.
"It's just matter of what we're trying to do with (Atlanta's Game 1 starter) Dallas Keuchel coming up, but I expect to be in there," Wong says. "This is where it all counts, where everything matters. It's huge just to get out here in the thick of things and playing some meaningful baseball."
Wong is also a front-runner for the National League Rawlings Gold Glove Award at second base. He has the second-highest SABR Defensive Index through mid-August this season, behind only Arizona shortstop Nick Ahmed. The stat is one of the prominent factors in determining the Gold Glove winners.
