Child killed when stroller hit by hit-and-run driver

The man who police say was driving the car that struck and killed a four-year-old Friday night on Chambers Road was driving on a revoked license.

Prosecutors charged 27-year-old Demetrius Cole of Florissant, Saturday, with counts of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Cole's accused of hitting a stroller carrying two children pushed by their mother.

Police say 4-year-old Tavares Chisholm of St. Louis died from his injuries. A two-year-old suffered broken legs.

Police say video shows the car was speeding, had no headlights, and no attempt was made to stop or slow down.

Cole told officers it was his car, but someone had stolen it prior to the accident.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX)- St. Louis County Police believe they have in custody, the driver of the car that drove off after hitting a stroller on Chambers Road, killing a four-year-old and injuring a two-year-old.

They're not saying anything else about the driver, yet. They are identifying the four-year-old as Tavares Chisolm, who lived in St. Louis' Hyde Park neighborhood.  The two year old is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say an adult was pushing the stroller when it was hit near Clairmont Drive at about 9:30 pm. Officers found the vehicle early Saturday morning.
