ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — The U.S. Congressman whose district has been touched by many of the region's gun deaths this summer hosts a town hall forum on gun violence in St. Louis tonight.
"I would suggest that we turn up the heat on the U.S. Senate to break the grip of the NRA on Congress and state legislature," Clay told KMOX's Kevin Killeen this week.
The St. Louis Democrat is hosting a town hall meeting on gun violence at Harris-Stowe University. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Clay plans to talk about his push for background checks, and a separate bill that would give local towns the power to enact their own gun laws that are tougher than state law. He feels gun violence should be treated like a public health crisis.
"This country and this community have reached a tipping point. We have allowed a culture of easy access to guns to devolve into an epidemic of gun violence."
Clay will be joined by members of the black caucus of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen.
