Dr. Michael Lim is a SLU Care cardiologist at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital and Dr. Fred Buckhold, a SLU Care general internist at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. A Brazilian study has had to be shut down early before many patients developed an irregular heartbeat at taking high doses of Chloroquine -- an anti-malaria drug -- to fight their COVID-19.
Dr. Lim says the drug does cause irregular heartbeats in some and could lead to fatal heart attacks. He says the drug must be monitored carefully to keep patients safe.
He also tells us about his three biggest cardiac concerns in COVID-19 patients. Dr. Lim answers more listener questions: Should I take zinc supplements and can I get the virus from the food I eat?
