Coronavirus Facts Only: Many unanswered questions about antibody testing

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Dr. Neil Anderson is an assistant professor of pathology and immunology at Washington University School of Medicine and assistant medical director of the Barnes Jewish Clinical Microbiology Laboratory -- and Dr. Fred Buckhold, a SLU Care general internist at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. Dr. Anderson explains what antibody testing is all about.

He says commercially marketed antibody testing did not need FDA approval.  So you really don't know which ones are accurate or not.

Dr. Anderson says we also don't know yet what it means to be antibody positive -- does it mean you are immune to the virus now or just mean that you've been exposed? That answer, he says, may take weeks if not months.

Dr. Anderson says he does expect there to be a high level of antibody testing nationwide eventually.
