(KMOX) - A new survey from the Wall Street Journal finds many states are reporting a spike in new coronavirus cases.  Is there any correlation with restrictions being lifted a couple of weeks ago in many states?

Dr. Fred Buckhold, a SLU Care general internist at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital says it stands to reason, but to be fair -- part of that was expected.  The big question, he says, is how do hospitals handle this increase?

Dr. Buckhold says most local hospitals are full right now -- not with coronavirus cases -- but with other types of typical cases.  But, that means little room for a lot of new cases.

He says the next couple weeks will show how we do as a region handling any sort of bump in new cases.

Many of the new non-COVID cases, he says, are more serious than usual -- and he thinks that's because so many people have been avoiding needed medical care up until now.
