Creve Coeur woman with emotional support monkeys wants compassion, not jokes

CREVE COEUR, Mo. (KMOX) — A Creve Couer woman explained to city officials Monday night why it's wrong to ask her to get rid of her emotional support monkeys. "That's just wrong to me," Texanne McBride pleaded. "It's like choosing between your children."

But her monkeys are her lifeline, so she revealed why she needs them.   She claims, as a homeless teen, she was kidnapped and raped by a man named Joseph Nissensohn. Years later she testified against him. He was convicted and sent to death row in the torture and killings of three teenage girls.

"I still check San Quentin's (State Prison) roster every month to make sure he's there." McBride says the story of her support monkeys has been the subject of jokes, but what she really needs is compassion. The council is expected to vote on new ordinances in two weeks that could determine whether McBride gets to keep any of her animals. McBride says she checked regulations before leasing a home in Creve Couer.

"I came with three monkeys, and I'm going to leave with three monkeys."
