ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - De Smet Jesuit High School head football coach Robert Steeples – now one of the top-ranked teams in the area – likes to think back to his first season with the Spartans when he managed just two wins.
"I know when we first got here we were a bunch of strangers, asking them to run through brick walls," Steeples says. "And now we're at the point where we ask them to run through a brick wall and they say, 'Hey coach, we'll meet you on the other side.'
"I want our kids to feel like our coaches are the 12th man. We're as much in the trenches as possible."
The 29-year-old former cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings in the NFL has his team poised for a deep playoff run in 2019.
