“For the past few years, Stifel Theatre has been offering sensory-friendly performances at family shows in order to give children the opportunity to experience their favorite characters,” General Manager of Enterprise Center and Stifel Theatre Todd Mitchell said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be able to have both Enterprise Center and Stifel Theatre increase and expand our efforts by becoming certified in sensory inclusivity.”
In order to get certified, staff had to be trained by medical professionals on how to recognize and handle sensory overload situations. Additionally, the venues will offer free sensory bags equipped with noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards and weighted lap pads to any guest who may feel overwhelmed by the environment.
Sensory bags are available, effective immediately, at the Enterprise Center Guest Services Center located on the north side of the Plaza concourse outside Portal 18 and the Stifel Theatre Guest Services Center located on the east side of the Ticket Lobby. Patrons may check out the complimentary bag for use during the event and return it before leaving the venue.
“By having the sensory bags available, people with sensory sensitivities will be able to enjoy the variety of experiences we have to offer," said Mitchell.
Kulture City co-founder Julian Maha said, “To know that you soon will be able to see families attend a hockey game or concert, true community binding experiences, with their loved ones who have a sensory challenge and who were not able to previously attend, is truly a heartwarming moment."
