The alert was issued near Rolla, Mo. for Allison Summerford and her infant son around 2 p.m., Thursday.
However, they were found safe not long afterwards in Rolla and it turns out, Summerfeld had her 16-year-old brother phone in the phony report, according to authorities and KMOU-TV.
The reason? Maries County officials believe it was to buy her time to get to Arkansas with her child while her father was distracted.
Earlier KMOX reporting:
The Missouri State Highway Patrol canceled the Amber Alert for a infant boy, Dominque Summerford, who was abducted from 32498 Maries County Road 213 — just north of Rolla — at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1. Also abducted was Allison Summerford, a 22-year-old white female who is 5 months pregnant.
The suspect's vehicle was a black GMC or Chevrolet full-sized truck with 4 tires in the bed of the truck. It has either a personalized plate or an unknown state dealer plate. It was last seen headed toward Vienna, the county seat. The suspect is possibly en route to the Arkansas area.
Police believe the suspect is a white or hispanic male with black hair and a black beard, wearing a t-shirt with a dragon on it and armed with a black handgun.
Anyone seeing the victims, suspect, or vehicle or anyone having any information related to the abduction should immediately dial 911 to contact the nearest law enforcement agency or call the Maries County Sheriffs Department at 573-422-3381.
