ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Jack Flaherty decided he couldn't wait for the official announcement that he would be the St. Louis Cardinals 2020 Opening Day starter. He made the somewhat accidental announcement on Tuesday.
"Oh well," the 24-year-old said to media on Tuesday via a video press conference. "I don't know if he's said it to you guys, but yeah, he said (I'll be starting on Opening Day)."
He says manager Mike Shildt told him he'd take the
mound on season opener July 24 against Pittsburgh – it will be his first Opening Day start. Last year it was Miles Mikolas and the two years prior it was Carlos Martinez.
