WATCH: Flip phones could be coming back with new foldable smartphone

(KMOX) - It would fit in your pocket easier and possible appease some of those generation x'ers who are still holding onto their original flip phone from a decade ago. During Samsung's developer conference Tuesday, the tech giant revealed a new foldable phone concept.

"This brand-new form factor that we’re now exploring will not only easily fit in your pocket, but it also changes the way you use your phone," Hyesoon Jeong, head of Samsung’s framework R&D group, said at the conference, according to TheVerge.com.

The phone could theoretically be folded hotdog or hamburger style.

The company released some concepts of smartphones, tablets and smartwatches as part of its coming One UI 2 software. 

Samsung didn't offer a name for its folding prototype phone. A video released about the phone shows when it records video in portrait view, the phone can be bent to a 90-degree angle and the video resizes itsself to fit the screen that has been cut in half. Then the phone could rest on a flat surface, with the video still recording.

Not much else was revealed. There's no release timeframe or an estimated price of the future phone.
