SAN DIEGO (KMOX) - Day 1 of MLB's Winter Meetings included one of the high-profile free agents of the offseason inking a deal to stay at home and St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak believes the faster the moves happen the better for baseball it will be.

"I think it's good for the game when you're seeing that type of movement," Mozeliak said of the agreement between the Washington Nationals and pitcher Stephen Strasburg on a seven-year deal for over $220 million. "This year and this week in particular you better be prepared because I've already had a few meetings today where agents made it very clear, 'people are moving quick.'"

One player the Cardinals are unlikely to bring back next season is outfielder Marcell Ozuna.

"I think we'll get together with them this week, we'll see where we are, where we stand," Mozeliak said when asked about communication with Ozuna and his agent. "Clearly I think his market is going to be pretty robust, so I think his timing is right."

On Wed. we'll find out if Mike Shannon will be inducted into the @baseballhall as the Ford C. Frick Award winner, he is 1 of 8 finalists.Joe Torre talks to @chrabe & @claibsonline about Shannon's impact on the game. #WinterMeetings #GoodwillKMOX @MERSGoodwill #stlcards pic.twitter.com/vRQRchItZP
