ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - When the St. Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup in June, it forced a lot of people to put up or shut up about that tattoo they said they'd get if it ever happened.
Apparently, a lot of people are putting up. At Tower Classic Tattooing in the Grove, partner Andy May says he's done about 40 tattoos featuring the blue note and/or the Cup.
As for the designs, May says the biggest challenge is the note itself. "Whoever designed the Blues logo was definitely not thinking about it being a tattoo. It's a very technical design to be applied as a tattoo. Just coming up with cool, clever ways to reinvent the wheel has been fun."
But after weeks of working on it, May says, "I can draw it in my sleep at this point."
While the shop has had other busy times, he says no single event has ever resulted in a similar rush, and he thinks it's going to last a while. "I've had people already map out (the future). They're like, 'I want one with the date here but I want it small so when we win the next one, I'll add another date'."
