ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It's unknown at this point how many road games the St. Louis Cardinals may play in the 2019 postseason, but we do know Mike Shannon will be on the microphone for every single one.
The 80-year-old is going to call all Cards road games in these playoffs with John Rooney and Ricky Horton, which is something he hasn't done full time since the 2015 season. In January 2016 it was announced he would no longer be traveling to call games on KMOX.
The Cards could play in the National League Wild Card Game against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday (team with the best record would host and St. Louis owns the tiebreaker). But if St. Louis wins the NL Central, the Cards and Shannon would begin postseason play on Thursday in Atlanta.
The last time Shannon called road games was in 2017 during a special trip to Pittsburgh.
He and John Rooney will be the broadcasters and are joined by Mike Claiborne on the pregame and postgame shows throughout the 2019 playoffs.
St. Louis begins a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs Friday night at Busch Stadium. Pregame coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on KMOX 1120AM.
