ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt joined Chris Hrabe on KMOX after winning the 2019 Manager of the Year award Tuesday night.
The second-year manager shared with us what it was like sitting alone in front of a camera and waiting for MLB Network to announce the winner. He said in the moments before it was announced, he was able to share a special moment with mom and dad. The award came less than a week after Shildt's mother died, and his father died in 1997.
"I just had a moment with them, and it wasn't about, 'Hey, I'm going to win the award or I'm not going to win the award,'" Shildt says. "I just had a moment right before it got announced and was just grateful for them and I was present with them."
He also discussed how the award is a team award and complimented his coaching staff.
