ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The name of the newest Major League Soccer team is St. Louis City Soccer Club.
The name, crest and color were unveiled on Thursday in a live virtual announcement. You can watch the announcement in the video at the top of this page.
A statement released with the new logo says, "Our club represents East of the river and West of 270. We are Old North and South County. We are the heart of a vibrant midtown and soul of a historic downtown."
Four primary colors will identify the team: "City Red," "River Blue," "Energy Yellow," "Arch Steel Gray."
“St. Louis City SC is a reflection of the STLMade movement that is at the heart of everything we do, and truly represents our region’s diverse and optimistic spirit,” said Kindle Betz. “Our desire from day one has been to be bigger than soccer and to become part of the fabric of St. Louis and a symbol of our future. This is a significant step forward for our club – and our region.”
Fanatics has shirts, a scarf, face masks, can coolers and more with the team crest up for sale.
Earlier this month, MLS pushed back the timeline for the inaugural seasons of three of the four expansion clubs: St. Louis, Charlotte and Sacramento. St. Louis will begin play in 2023, not 2022 as originally planned.
The new 22,500-seat stadium will sit just north of Market St. in the place of what was on- and off-ramps for Interstate-64.
Fans will be able to enter the stadium from all sides. The project will be one-of-a-kind for MLS, as no other team has its team front offices, training facility, practice fields and the stadium in the same location, according to previously announced plans.
