ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Pat Maroon described it as just "the nature of the business" as to why a deal wasn't reached between him and his hometown St. Louis Blues this offseason. The 31-year-old signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, after bringing a Stanley Cup Championship to St. Louis for the first time in franchise history.
"It was an honor to be from St. Louis and to put that blue note jersey on every night," Maroon says. "And to be the first St. Louisan to bring the Stanley Cup back to St. Louis, words can't express that, people bring it up to me all the time and it's still hard to believe."
He says he's hopeful to do "something special" with the Lightning next season, who had the best record in the NHL last year. The Blues will host Maroon's new team on Nov. 19.
"It's going to be a little weird just because I'm going to miss the guys," Maroon says.
