KANSAS CITY (KMOX/AP) - The word from Kansas City Police is that fans can "Resume celebrating!" after a vehicle drove through a barricade and onto part of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade route on Wednesday morning.

The incident happened around 8:20 a.m. – just three hours before the parade was set to begin. Police stopped the suspect with a successful "PIT maneuver" and authorities say there are no reports of injuries.

The chase began "on the north side of the route" at 8:12 a.m., according to police. It ended on Pershing, between Main and Grand.

Police say the driver is under investigation for possible impaired driving. They say officers deployed "Stop Sticks," which some refer to as spike strips, which the suspect's vehicle hit, then the car was stopped after the PIT maneuver.

Police say two people were arrested.

Hundreds of thousands are expected to flood downtown Kansas City despite a predicted winter storm as the triumphant Chiefs bring home a Super Bowl trophy for the first time in 50 years.

Several schools in the area canceled Wednesday's classes, freeing up buses to haul fans to the celebration of the team's come-from-behind 31-20 win against San Francisco.

City staff that aren't involved in public safety or other essential services will be freed of their duties to watch the parade, which will start at 11:30 a.m. and end with a rally in front of the city's Union Station.
