Dawn Harper Nelson grew up in Belleville, attended East St. Louis High School, won a gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. She was 33 when she won the silver medal at the 2017 world championships. Last fall Dawn Harper Nelson announced she was training for the 2020 Tokyo Games.
