ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It's not an XFL Championship that the St. Louis BattleHawks were hoping to tout this year, but they have officially won the title of "best moment" from the XFL season.

The reverse kick return that St. Louis turned into a touchdown in its home opener on Feb. 23 has won the bracket challenge put on by league via social media. St. Louis beat out a side-arm touchdown pass by the Houston Roughnecks QB in the championship – and it wasn't even close.

The final vote was 68% in favor of St. Louis and just 32% for Houston. Here's the winning play:

The man who made it happen, Joe Powell, talked about what it meant to score the first kick return touchdown in XFL history:

In other offseason XFL news, St. Louis quarterback Jordan Ta’amu signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs last month. He was the No. 3 rated QB in the league this season, leading St. Louis to a 3-2 season.

The XFL's inaugural season was cut short due to the coronavirus, just before St. Louis was set to host Los Angeles and getting close to selling out the entire Dome at America's Center.

All players will be paid their promised salary and benefits for the rest of this season and the league says it plans on playing a full season in 2021 and beyond. All ticketholders – including the more than 40,000 who bought tickets for the Rock the Dome game scheduled for March 21 – were issued refunds or given credit toward future games.
