ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Thursday's doubleheader between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park has been officially postponed by Major League Baseball.
MLB and the Cardinals believe it is prudent to continue additional testing while players and staff are quarantined before the team returns to play.
The next scheduled game on the Cardinals' schedule is Friday at 7:10pm in Chicago vs the White Sox, but more information regarding the team's resumption of play will be announced later in the week. Saturday's game time in Chicago had been moved back to 6:10pm earlier Monday afternoon.
St. Louis will now miss 15 games while the next highest total for an MLB team is Miami and Philadelphia, who each have had seven postponements. In order to complete the 60-game schedule in this shortened season, the Cardinals will have to play 55 games in 45 days once they return to the field.
The Cardinals players who have tested positive for COVID-19 thus far, as released by the team, are catcher Yadier Molina, infielders Paul DeJong, Edmundo Sosa, and Rangel Ravelo, outfielders Lane Thomas and Austin Dean, and pitchers Ryan Helsley, Junior Fernández and Kodi Whitley.
