Here are the 3 possible playoff scenarios for the Cardinals

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The charging Milwaukee Brewers have made this final weekend of the regular season a very interesting one for the St. Louis Cardinals. They've come back from a seven-game deficit to St. Louis in early September and could leap over the Cards to win the NL Central.

While both teams are guaranteed a spot in the postseason, there are three scenarios left to be decided. St. Louis – with a one-game lead over Milwaukee – hosts the Cubs for three games while the Brewers are in Colorado for three games.

Here's what could happen:

  • If St. Louis sweeps the Cubs, there's nothing Milwaukee can do. St. Louis would win the Central and head to Atlanta on Thursday to play the Braves in the best-of-five NLDS. St. Louis just has to play one game better than the Brewers to win the Central outright.
  • But if the Brewers and Cardinals are tied after Sunday's games there will be a tiebreaker game played at Busch Stadium on Monday. The winner would go to the NLDS and the loser would go to the Wild Card Game against the Washington Nationals.
  • Now, there's a third scenario. If Milwaukee wins the Central then St. Louis would go straight to the Wild Card Game on Tuesday against the Nationals. The team with the best record would host (Cards and Nats are currently tied).

St. Louis begins a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs Friday night at Busch Stadium. Pregame coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on KMOX 1120AM.
