CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) - The St. Louis County Council has turned back a measure in support of March For Life participants and the work they do.
A half-dozen speakers addressed the council Tuesday night, thanking them for taking up the resolution, then gasping as it failed along party lines 4-3.
Republican Mark Harder, the resolution sponsor, said the rejection left him speechless, "We spent the last year building bi-partisan bridges on this council, and I guess those bridges have fallen apart."
Council chair, Democrat Lisa Clancy, said she reserves the right to not support the resolution, "I am always happy and more than willing to have a bi-partisan dialogue on this issue that was on this resolution tonight and any other issue. I do not believe that a resolution is the right way to have a dialogue on any issue."
Resolution supporters said 3,000 St. Louisans attended the 47th annual National March for Life this year in Washington DC.
