ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Capt. Mary Barton is the new St. Louis County Police Chief, effective May 1. Barton will be appointed to the rank of Colonel and will begin her tenure as the ninth Chief of Police in the county. She is the first woman to serve in that capacity. The County Board Chairman Ray Price Junior says they took comments from the community, worked fast and hard to complete the selection process.

March 19, 2020 Price adds, the department needs consistent and steady leadership as it deals with COVID-19 and the other challenges facing all police departments in this nation.
Current County Police Chief Jon Belmar will retire on April 30, after holding the position for six years.
