St. Louis man in Joker makeup arrested for allegedly making terrorist threats

UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo (KMOX) - A man wearing makeup similar to that worn by Joaquin Phoneix in the movie "Joker" was arrested in The Delmar Loop for making terrorist threats, police say.

Officers were initially called to Blueberry Hil at about 8:15 p.m. Monday, for a man dressed in a costume creating a disturbance.

Officers found 51-year-old Jeremy Garnier inside the restaurant in Delmar and say he was making threats via a Facebook Live video. The video is posted on his personal Facebook page and shows him driving to and walking into Blueberry Hill in a full "Joker" costume.

He was arrested nearby without incident. Garnier, who is from University City, is being held without bond.

A friend of Garnier has set up a GoFundMe account to help him pay an attorney. The goal is to raise $5,000.

She says Garnier was entertaining his followers and was not making threats, but playing his role and trying to bring attention to the opioid crisis.
