Lazer Snakes? Here are the St. Louis MLS team names that didn't make the cut

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - In 17 days we'll get to see the name, colors and crest of St. Louis' first MLS franchise. There were thousands of options for the ownership group to chose from after opening an online submission form for fans to give input. Of the more than 5,000 entries there were a few that apparently didn't make the cut, but are giving local soccer fans a good laugh. 

The MLS4TheLou ownership group shared four of the team-name submissions that weren't selected: 

  • Lazer Snakes
  • Chupacabras
  • Kicky McKickertons Football Club
  • STL Capybaras

But did they make a big mistake in not going with Lazer Snakes? A lot of social media commenters believe so: 

One Twitter user said: "Lazer Snakes or we riot!!!"

Another person on Facebook said: "I’m sorry but you are never going to top Lazer Snakes."

Last week, MLS4TheLou's Carolyn Kindle Betz told our Sports Director Tom Ackerman on the Garage Happy Hour, now that she knows the official name she's very nervous about accidentally telling someone. She joked that it might be best for her to just stay home for a couple weeks until the official announcement. 

MLS4ThLou will announce the name, colors and crest virtually on August 13.

Earlier this month, MLS pushed back the timeline for the inaugural seasons of three of the four expansion clubs: St. Louis, Charlotte and Sacramento. St. Louis will begin play in 2023, not 2022 as originally planned.
