ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — The St. Louis music community is banding together to help a fellow musician in need of surgery following a serious bicycle accident.
Jazz Guitarist Dave Black's leg will require extensive surgery. Singer and musician Joe Mancuso told KMOX the injury is significant.
"He can't drive a car for about three months, they say," Mancuso said. "He has to keep his leg elevated this whole time, and he pretty much makes his living playing his guitar. He performs three, four, five times a week."
Mancuso organized a GoFundMe account for Black and estimates he will be out of commission for two to three months.
"He also teaches, and now he can't go to the classroom and teach, so this really knocks him out as far as earning a living," Mancuso said. "Dave's been a local musician for many years. A treasure — people love him. Not only is he a great guitarist; he's a great guy."
In two days, donors have raised more than $7,000.
