ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Heading into this weekend there was a vocal push by St. Louis city leaders to try and control the nightly drag racing, cruising and violence downtown. On Monday, police released some information about their traffic stops and arrests made over the weekend.

On top of a number of arrests reported, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department hauled in six weapons and towed nine vehicles, three ATVs and one motorcycle.

Police shared photos of the vehicles and firearms on Facebook:

On Sunday, St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden praised the plans and execution of this weekend's restrictions, focused mainly on Washington Avenue and on surface parking lots in downtown.

He says some slight modifications may be needed, but for the most part, he thinks the plan is working.

While most police efforts were concentrated on traffic hazards, there still was crime in downtown.

A man was carjacked at 10th Street and Washington Avenue Saturday night. Police say he had just parked his car in a secured garage when a man walked up with a gun, ordered him out of the car and took his keys and drove off.

An hour before that there was another armed robbery at 9th and Locust Streets, where a man was in his car when a suspect approached on foot. Police say the suspect ordered the victim to get out of the car and run, and the victim complied.

Early Monday morning two men are shot multiple times as more violence erupted on Washington Avenue. It happened at about 2:30 a.m. at Washington Avenue and 9th Street. Police say both men were shot multiple times, one was found at the scene, the other at Lumiere Place Boulevard and Carr Street.

Police said both were in critical condition at a local hospital. No word on suspects.
