Madison, Il (KMOX)-One person of interest is in custody, another is being sought, after a Monday night triple shooting that ended the life of a 15-year-old boy.
Madison Police Chief Nick Gailius tells KMOX officers were called to a home at 4th and Washington at about 7:40 p.m. "Officers that arrived on the scene found three young people shot. They were all transported to local hospitals. Sadly, a 15-year-old was one of the people shot. He succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital." The other victims, a 16-year-old boy and 21-year-old man, sustained non life-threatening injuries.
Gailious says a person of interest was located at a home a block away, at 5th and Washington. He refused to come out so Madison Police called in the Regional Special Response Team, which cordoned off the area. "As a matter of precaution the homes around there were evacuated," Gailius says. "Residents were given the opportunity to go to the city fire department that the mayor opened up for them."
At about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Response Team members entered the home and found the person of interest, who surrendered without incident.
Major Case Squad detectives announced a few hours later that they were looking for a second person of interest, who is not in custody.
They're also trying to determine what led to the shooting.
The victims' names are not being released, yet.
