St. Louis Lambert International Airport

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -  Eighteen companies submitted initial paperwork to be considered if the city of St. Louis decides to hire a firm to operate St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

Speaking with KMOX News on Saturday afternoon, Mayor Lyda Krewson called 18 a good number, "I don't know most of these companies personally, but certainly the working group will be looking into who these companies are, what their experience is, what their capital capacity is, and all those kinds of things."

Krewson said the airport working group will spend a month going over the submissions before a next phase would happen, "Are these operators proposing new terminals? Are they proposing to take care of almost $1 billion in deferred maintenance at the airport? Of course, anyone who has a proposal will have to pay off the airport debt, which is over $600 million."

Krewson said one name not on the list of those submitting qualifications is Ferrovial of Spain, the company that hired former St. Louis mayor Francis Slay as a lobbyist.
