2 WashU physicians test positive; 2nd case of COVID-19 in St. Louis city

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) updated at 5 p.m. - More positive cases of coronavirus in the St. Louis area were announced on Wednesday, including two physicians at Washington University in St. Louis. Mayor Lyda Krewson also announced Wednesday morning on KMOX that the city has its second confirmed case.

Here's the full statement from WashU:

"Two Washington University physicians have tested positive for COVID-19 – one resides in the City of St. Louis and the other resides in St. Louis County. They are not currently working with patients and are quarantined. We are working as diligently and quickly as possible with public health officials who are focused on identifying and communicating with anyone who may have had contact with the physicians. Our top priority, as always, is the health and well-being of our patients, our employees and our St. Louis community."

It wasn't immediately clear if the case announced by Krewson was the same case as the WashU physician.

Krewson made the announcement on KMOX and says the individual continued to go to work "for several days" in St. Louis while exhibiting symptoms.

"People who have any symptoms at all (of COVID-19) really need to stay home," Krewson says. "So that we don't have additional spread."

Krewson tells our Charlie Brennan and Amy Marxkors that the man is middle aged, but couldn't say where he worked. She says the company's employees have been notified.

Late last night, @STLCityGov and @CityofSTLDOH received word of a 2nd presumptive positive case of #COVID19 in the City. With this case, there's reason to believe there is community exposure. This individual continued to go to work in the City while exhibiting symptoms.
