Officer under investigation after shooting suspected shoplifter in Ladue

A Ladue police officer is under investigation and on paid administrative leave after she shot and critically wounded a shoplifting suspect in the parking lot of the Ladue Crossing shopping center.

Around 3 p.m. Tuesday police responded to a call of shoplifting and a strong-armed robbery at the Schnucks on Ladue Road.

St. Louis County Police are handling the investigation. Detectives have obtained surveillance video of the shooting and are interviewing witnesses. Police are still looking for a second suspect, who is believed to be a male, and any witnesses who have not yet come forward.

A spokesperson said the 37-year-old female Ladue officer shot a 33-year-old female suspect in the parking lot. What led up to the shooting is not clear.

At last word Tuesday afternoon, the woman was hospitalized in critical condition. St. Louis County Police Sgt. Benjamin Granda says the woman is expected to survive. Ladue Police Chief Ken Andreski says in a statement that the department is praying for a "full recovery.''

According to witnesses, the shooting victim was taken away in an ambulance, but their condition remains unknown at the time.
