January 28, 2019 "We would like to keep a 5-day supply, but anytime its under five days, we issue an emergency need," said American Red Cross spokesperson Joe Zydlo. "Right now, we have less than a 3-day supply. So that is a challenge."
Zydlo says a number of scheduled blood drives have had to be canceled to due harsh winter weather, further hurting their available supplies.
"We've had several hundred uncollected blood donations because of canceled blood drives in the region.
He's hoping the approach of warmer weather will allow more people to get out and donate blood.
