SWANSEA, Ill. (KMOX) — Just after 11 a.m. Monday, a black man walked into the Bank of Springfield in Swansea, Illinois, and handed the bankteller a note demanding money.

According to police, the note also suggested the man was armed. The teller complied and the man left by foot with an undetermined amount of money. He was seen walking on Route 159 (N. Illinois Street) after the incident.

Swansea police search the surrounding area to find two people dressed similarly, but neither ended up being the suspect of the bank robbery.

State police and the FBI responded to the scene, along with Belleville police and their K-9 unit to search for evidence. Swansea Detective Gary Reuter and the FBI are working the investigation.

Those with information about this incident are urged to call Detective Reuter at 618-233-8114 or the CrimeStoppers Tip Hotline at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
