Private security video helped investigation of Edwardsville double homicide

Edwardsville, IL (KMOX) - While they won't say exactly how, Edwardsville Police do say private cameras helped in the recent investigation of a double homicide.

Edwardsville Lt. Mike Lybarger says the department has cultivated a network throught it's private video registration system

"It allows us to know where to go and how to reach out so we know who to contact rather than going around and sending a guy looking for cameras," Lybarger says. "It's 2019 so it's pretty hard to get through the city without getting on somebody's camera."

It's all voluntary.  Residents and business can sign up online.  The location of the camera, which direction it's pointed, and how long video is stored - all kept in a digital map investigators can access.

Edwardsville Police thanked participants on social media for providing "much needed assistance" for the investigation into the killings of Michael and Lois Ladd.
