ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Members of the American Federation for Government Employees union and supporters are getting the word out about two issues.
Local 2192 acting president Keena Smith says they held a rally outside the federal government center on Goodfellow, Saturday, to protest unhealthy working conditions there - conditions the inspector general's office noted earlier this year, "They found 84 contaminants on the location, and GSA (General Services Administration) failed to notify the employees or their tenants of the conditions they are working in."
Among the contaminants reportedly found were lead, arsenic, and asbestos.
Smith says the report mirrors one conducted earlier in the 2000's.
The union is requesting federal workers be moved out of that facility.
Smith says Missouri Congressman Lacy Clay has gotten involved, asking the GSA for a hearing, but that hasn't happened yet.
Smith says the other issue deals with the Veterans Administration bargaining with the AFGE on a new national contract.
She says it's not going well, "What they're trying to do now is a lot of union-busting."
