CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) — St. Louis County Department of Health officials are confirming that a dog that was euthanized last week didn't have rabies.
Faust was rescued from the cold by a St. Louis letter carrier after being found frozen to the sidewalk. Stray Rescue swooped in and did all they could before sending Faust to Veterinary Specialty Services.
The dog pulled out of a coma and she appeared on the road to recovery. However, the canine was later put down because it bit a veterinary technician through the skin after showing signs of rabies.
St. Louis County Animal Control and Veterinary Specialty Services has faced backlash from Stray Rescue, which claims the dog didn't have to be euthanized. Stray Rescue later apologized to the "entire veterinary community" for criticizing VSS over its handling of Faust.
