Review of Missouri River Bluffs development delayed

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOX) — The plan to build 140 single-family homes and 136 multifamily units atop the Missouri River Bluffs in St. Charles County is on hold for another month, after developer Greg Whittaker asked for more time to gather documents.

The St. Charles County Planning and Zoning Commission is now expected to review the layout and lot design on July 17.

Environmentalists and some area residents concerned over the view, the runoff and the removal of trees continue to fight the proposal, but St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann tells KMOX's Charlie Brennan those issues have been addressed. "People who are interested only in those things, should feel pretty good about the final outcome. But, the fact is you got some people here, they just don't want any development at all."

The development would sit near The Missouri Bluffs Golf Club on land currently owned by the University of Missouri. "We already have the golf course," Ehlmann said. "If the University of Missouri needs the money and wants to sell the land rights and they've met the criteria our council has set out in terms of doing it in a reasonable and responsible way, then I think we need to proceed."
