SPANISH LAKE, Mo. (KMOX) — One person is dead after a late morning house fire in Spanish Lake.

Firefighters were called to the 12500 block of Lusher, near Highway 367 and New Jamestown, at about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The elderly male victim was outside when they got there. Witnesses say the fire apparently started in the garage and spread to the house.

Eventually, 25 pieces of equipment were summoned to the 2-alarm fire. Also there, salt trucks to help out with the icing on the roadway. The Red Cross sent a canteen and bi-state sent a bus so firefighters could get warm.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit.

The St. Louis County Police Department's Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is also investigating.
