FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (KMOX) - Adam Long out of St. Louis didn’t beat the Bethpage Black course, but he did play well enough to beat the likes of Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson and other to make it to the weekend at the 101st PGA Championship.

At 8 am CT, St. Louis' @aLongShot tees off in the 3rd Round of the #PGAChampionship. He's the first St. Louisan to make the cut at a major championship since Scott Langley in 2010 US Open: https://t.co/QedwL3MaeG#PGAChamp #GoLikeAPro @NationalPro pic.twitter.com/dulOOAJUmB

Long birded two holes on Friday, playing in the very last group of the day, and shot even-par 70 to make the cut with three strokes to spare.

He’ll be playing in the 9 a.m. local tee time with Ryan Vermeer and trailing the leader, Brooks Koepka by 15 strokes. The PGA Tour rookie is a Francis Howell High School graduate and won his first tournament earlier this year at the Desert Classic. He beat Phil Mickelson by one stroke.

The Tour win in Florida meant a more than $1 million in prize money for Long, as well as a two-year extension on his PGA Tour card and automatic spots in the next Players Championship, Arnold Palmer Invitational and Memorial Invitational.

He's also an early contender for the Tour's rookie of the year award.

Long is the first St. Louisan to make the cut at one of golf's four major championship since the 2010 US Open, when Scott Langley made it to the weekend as an amateur.
